An environmental certification, which Eco-Lighthouse is, will help us increase awareness of the impact we have on the climate and environment, and allow us to become better acquainted with measurable steps that we can take in order to improve year by year.
The Eco-Lighthouse Foundation operates the certification programme, which is Norway’s most widely used environmental certificate for businesses. Eco-Lighthouse is also the first national scheme in Europe to be recognised by the EU.
Waste, reuse and energy
On the path to certification, we have carried out extensive mapping and documentation work within criteria such as system requirements, working environment, purchases, energy, transport and waste and reuse.
Through further work, we will set new goals within these criteria. For the coming year, we have set ourselves the goal of becoming better at recycling our waste and reusing, or getting others to reuse, equipment that we no longer need. We will also further reduce our energy consumption.
Energy has been a theme at the Petroleum Museum in both 2022 and 2023. We have replaced the lights in the main exhibition area, thereby reducing our energy consumption. In addition, we installed solar panels on the roof of the museum hall in September/October, which enables us to produce some of our own energy, especially during the summer months.
Public results
Every year, in line with the requirements of being an Eco-Lighthouse, we will prepare a climate and environmental report. This will be published online, along with our goals for further action.
On the same page, it will be possible to provide feedback on how we can improve and increase our awareness.
We want to shed light on our own climate and environmental work. For climate and environmental reasons, we will not use floodlights or fluorescent tubes, but an energy-efficient LED light.
